Project Manager, NOKIA Switzerland
March 1999 - March 2000
A new cellular GSM network was launched in Switzerland in December 1998, with NOKIA as turnkey supplier. In parallel with the turnkey rollout, I negotiated two supplementary contracts: special coverage and capacity enhancement, for which I was nominated project manager.
In the special coverage project, specific indoor sites where defined, and implementation carried out by a joint customer/NOKIA team under my leadership. In addition, the customer required us to implement solutions for temporary coverage with lead-times from two weeks to four days, culminating in the implementation of six sites for coverage of a large exhibition in two weeks (from order to sites on-air). All of those urgent requirements where met.
In the capacity enhancement project, the utilization of RF channels where monitored and forecasted, and suitable capacity enhancement solutions implemented. The enhancement ranged from installing supplementary RF radio units (TRX's) to implementing new RF features (frequency hopping).
In both projects my responsibility as project manager included being the main customer interface, the negotiation of the contract, the definition of procedures and standards, assuring implementation on time and budget, negotiation of resource needs with the turnkey project, invoicing, logistics and progress monitoring.
Productivity Services Manager, NOKIA Switzerland
May 1998 - February 1999
The Productivity Services Manager is responsible for radio network-, transmission network-, switching network- and system planning activities, as well as consulting and marketing activities, both for wireless (cellular) systems and for fixed networks.
As Productivity Services Manager in Switzerland, my primary tasks were managing the human resources in the department, and controlling the economical results of the department. I hired 30 persons during the period, increasing the staffing level from 10 to 40 network planners, including local workforce, NOKIA expatriates, as well as contractors.
From May to October 1998, I was also Network Planning Manager for a specific turnkey project. During this period I successfully lead the development of suitable procedures for the network planning activities, and their implementation by the team. We rolled out 300 sites in 8 months, ensuring a successful launch of the GSM network.
